I've never made it down to Sherman Branch so I'll have to leave it to others to comment on first-hand experience. A few personal pluses for LNSP for me are: 1. extra trail mileage, 2. farther from Charlotte (less traffic off and on the trail), and 3. it's a more convenient drive from home (Davidson County) [rather be on the bike than in the truck].
There are many good reviews for both trails at the Tarheel Trailblazer web site ( www.tarheeltrailblazers.com/TrailsTest.cfm) and SingleTracks ( www.singletracks.com/mountain-bike/map-list.php?state_id=414). I understand, from previous research on the sites above, that both trails are similar.
Sounds like multiple MisFit road trips are in order....

I'm a big fan of Lake Norman State Park. There's 30 miles of trails - something for everyone.
Have fun...

Renewed back in February. I agree - every little bit counts. Whether it's the IMBA/SORBA/GFTS membership, work-days, volunteering for events, donating a little extra cash, or other involvement (or better yet - a little of all of the above) - it all adds up.

Had a great time today. The new Rogue Hoe works really well. Mark & Jimmy - thanks for placing the order (of course we're that much more dangerous now ). Good to see some familiar faces and meet a few new people.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about (and see) your crash.
Thanks for reminding me why I don't race and ride so darn slow.
Heal up soon....

I just ran across information about a challenging run/cycling event down at Uwharrie (Troy, NC) on May 19 (Saturday). The URL below provides additional details for those interested. There's also a similar event in Boone in September (21-22, Friday-Saturday).
Uwharrie Throw-down details: thegauntletrun.com/run-the-gauntlet-uwharrie/uwharrie-info
I added the May event to the BT event calendar for reference.
For any who enter - may the odds be ever in your favor.

Don't kill black snakes either. I've heard black snakes will eat copperheads.
Interesting. I had no idea snakes ate their own species. I thought they only ate other animals.
Yes. King snakes are also good for controlling the population of venomous snakes.

The take home message for Misfit riders.....
Verify that you are not going to ride a Leper or a Ghost trail before starting the ride.
Bad enough to have bike parts falling off during a ride. Hate to see rider parts fall off after a "Leper trail" ride
Just practice your bunny hopping (over lost appendages).

Awesome seeing and working with everyone yesterday. Thanks to Morgan and Steve for spending time showing us how to build trails the right way.
I'm sure today's "closing ride" will be fun - unfortunately I'm going to miss it due to other plans.
Hope everyone has a great ride - see you on the trails later.

I haven't ridden the trails this year but it didn't seem to be well maintained back in June 2011. It's a shame because I think it could be a fair trail with a little TLC.
Anyone know who maintains the trail? I presume that the parks and rec. in Lexington will have a contact. If they could use a hand in cleaning up the trail and possibly making improvements in the future are there any others down DC way that would be interested in helping?
